How it started.
Leftover wood, trim and shutters from a recent renovation project and a strong desire to make something else with. Something that made us smile.
The trim board, when cut, felt like kinetic. Like it wanted to move.
We thought about birds.
After a considerable amount of to and fro, outside inspiration and clumsy prototyping, that thought turned into these things. We thought they looked kind of neat. They’re fun to do and we’re still creating more.
Another winged baseboard experiment, this one came together when we started thinking about what a birds wings can symbolize. One thought: the uplifting power of nature. The body is warm, unfinished pine that we love leaving alone, and the wings are a fanned deck — decorated backs facing out with a hand drawn ornate-ish black-and-white pattern and terracotta-orange accents on the back side.
Something like this has the potential to add a little lift, color and character to a room.

This bird keeps its secrets and powers on the inside.
The body is unfinished cedar, and the wings are stained a deep burgundy and lacquered to a shine. The wings are wooden shutters — and what's painted on them isn’t designed to be casual seen. It’s designed to entice serious observation. Open one side and there's fire. Open the other: water. Bold, swirling, painted with the kind of confidence that comes from committing fully to an idea and capturing it before it takes off.
Closed, it's a beautiful object. Open, it's a conversation. Either way, it doesn't stay on a shelf quietly.

A sculptural, graphic bird made from reclaimed and remnant wood and baseboards.
This was the culmination of a few hours of thought and experimentation. We wanted to glorify the materials by keeping them close to their original color but combined in a way that unified their purpose. That's art language for: we thought it would look cool to use white baseboards as bird wings. We had a lot of fun with this.
